Augustus DeWaat previously held office as the Governor of Booty Island before Elaine Marley took over.
Now he is the island lookout whose main duty is to sound the town cannon at the approach of the mail boat. The mail boat lets him know of its arrival by means of a loud horn.
He is extremely deaf and has poor eyesight and so can be taken advantage of because of this. He carries a hearing horn, unable to hear without it.
