Cobb was a character found in the Scumm Bar on Mêlée Island. He wears a badge reading, "Ask me about Loom" and a small kiddie pirate hat with his name on it, held on by a chin strap.

He is one of the first pirates in the bar that Guybrush Threepwood may talk to. He mostly answers questions by saying "Aye" until asked about Loom, when he would then advertise 'Loom', another adventure game made by LucasArts.

Like all of the other pirates there, he left the Scumm Bar when the Governor was kidnapped by LeChuck.

Return to Monkey Island

Years later Cobb could still be found in the Scumm Bar even as the old Pirate leaders were overthrown by Madison, Lila, and Trent. However after years of pirates asking him about Loom Cobb grew tired of advertising the game. Despite this Cobb continued to wear the "Ask me about Loom" button as it became infused with his grog corrupted body, and to compensate for this Cobb simply modified the button to say " Dont ask me about Loom". After the Scumm Bar's destruction caused by a spell cast by Guybrush and Lila Cobb's fate was left unknown as he is not seen for the rest of the game.

Trivia[]

  • Cobb is a character who appears in 'Loom'. His personality was extremely different in that game, being an unfriendly henchman of the game's villain, Bishop Mandible. His name was also spelled "Cob" in that game.
  • The likely explanation between his two characterizations is that viewing Bobbin Threadbare's face and the resulting trip to Monkey Island traumatized him. He looks decidedly the worse for wear when he is found in the Scumm Bar.
  • Cobb serves as an in-joke referring to product placement, being an exaggerated example of it.
  • Cobb is noticeably missing in the Scumm Bar in the demo version of the game.
