The Ferryman was an undead skeleton who ferries the newcoming ghosts who have died to the crossroads, in exchange for the coins from their burial. Guybrush Threepwood meets him after LeChuck fatally wounds him with his sword. Unfortunately Guybrush couldn't continue with the ferry until he gives the spectre two coins, though he was able to procure come coins from the nearby Grog vending machine to be permitted onboard. He first appears in the final chapter of Tales of Monkey Island. After ferrying Guybrush once, he disappears, though his boat can still be used by Guybrush. Galeb says that he disappeared because it is his sister's maternity shower.

- The Ferryman is very similar to The Flying Welshman from The Curse of Monkey Island. Both are robed skeletal figures with raspy voices that ferry Guybrush to another destination, and speak in a foreboding facade that gets dropped when agitated. Guybrush even remarks that the Ferryman seems familiar, though the latter states that they had never met before.
