The three pirate leaders at the scumm bar (SE)
"No pirates means no swag and no swag means no grog, and we're getting dangerously low on grog..."
The Very Important Pirate Leaders were frequent patrons of the Scumm Bar in Mêlée Town.
They had their own curtained off VIP area to show their importance. Their drink of choice was grog.
In The Secret of Monkey Island[]
Guybrush Threepwood was directed to meet them and asked them how he may go about becoming a pirate. They were amused at his ambition but realizing that LeChuck had scared off most of their help, they informed him of The Three Trials. They told him to report back when he was done so that they could officially pronounce him a pirate and drink grog as one of them.
Like all customers of the Scumm Bar, they fled after the kidnap of Governor Elaine Marley, delaying Guybrush Threepwood's dream of becoming a pirate.
In Return to Monkey Island[]
The pirate leaders had been ousted by Captain Madison and no longer frequented the Scumm Bar. Captains Madison, Lila, and Trent took their place.
They had instead taken over the old Store and converted it into a fish shop called The Cod's Wallop.

- VIP stands for 'Very Important Person', but the usual phrase has been slightly modified for use here.
- The pirate on the left bears a strong resemblance to Edward Teach, better known as the notorious pirate Blackbeard.
- According the original demo, one of the leaders (resembling the one on the right) was called One-Eyed Frank. However the animation is the close up used for Estevan.
