The Governor's Mansion is a large home on Mêlée Island used by the empowered Governor.
It was located on the outskirts of the Mêlée Town on a cliff top. It was accessed by passing the High Street through the town walls and walking a short mountainside path.
Security included the Piranha Poodles and a Heavily Armed Clown.
Home to the Marley-Threepwoods[]
For generations it was home to the Marley family.
Elaine Marley ruled from there. Guybrush Threepwood broke inside in order to steal the Idol of Many Hands. His actions were almost hampered by Fester Shinetop. It was there when he first met Elaine and fell in love.
After the marriage of Governor Marley to Threepwood, it became their home along with their pet Timmy the monkey.
Threepwood was not allowed in the kitchen.
When Charles L. Charles became governor, he planned to demolish the mansion as "...a bourgeois symbol of the elitist piratocracy". His plans were halted and then he revealed to Guybrush and Elaine that he was actually LeChuck.

Behind the scenes[]
- In an early design stage of SoMI, the view of the Mansion would be from the front; according to the z-plane file of the game files, Guybrush would be able to walk behind the columns of the front porch. The game files also showed interactive obects such as
mansion-doormat
andmansion-key
, suggesting that Guybrush would have to find the doorkey under the mat in order to open the door; this early layout of the Mansion is an obvious reference to Maniac Mansion as it is visually similar to that Mansion, and the player enters it with these actions.[1] - Guybrush would also had to enter other locations of the Mansion, such as a playable Idol Room inside the Mansion. In the source code, that room would lead to the
foyer
(the main area seen in the final game) and ahallway
with 6 doors. In order to obtain the Idol Guybrush would have to do something with the cabinet, there was an egg-like object calledeye
. There would also be an office, and a kitchen, where Guybrush would have to use jam to lead ants from one room to another, in order to obtain the Idol. The idea of the puzzle was scrapped before the full artwork of the Idol Room or box file was finished, and was replaced by a cutscene.[1]
