Monkey Island Wiki

Hook Isle (or Hook Island in TSOMI: Special Edition) is an island connected to Mêlée Island.

It is home to Meathook and the Beast (in Secret only).

Secret of Monkey Island[]

The only way to access the island was by zipline: Guybrush Threepwood used his rubber chicken (with a pulley in the middle) to cross the chasm between the two land masses.

Meathook ran a hotel business here.

Behind the scenes[]

  • In early design stages of the game, Meathook would make Guybrush pass 2 more tests, which however were cut for unnecessarily slowing down the game action. Source code reveal that Meathook's house has objects such as meats-house-trial-2-door (and earlier trial-2-trial-3-door).
    • It is possible that the puzzling cave or tunnel entrance that can be seen to the right of the screen, during the test, was supposed to be part of the next trial.[1]

Escape from Monkey Island[]

A lone lit house on an island, connected to the mainland via bridge. A sign pointed to the house reads "Meathook's House of Wax".

By the time of the fourth game, Meathook had taken up wax painting, and opened Meathook's House of Wax in his home on Hook Isle. The zipline and poles had been removed and replaced by a wooden bridge. On interacting with the bridge, Guybrush would remark: "Looks like Meathook finally got himself a bridge. Personally, I kinda miss the old pulley-n-poultry method.".

Whilst a flag flying from the building advertised a wax show, it was cancelled by Meathook, as was discovered by Guybrush upon asking Meathook in Act I.

Trivia[]

It is possible that 'Hook Island' was named by Meathook himself.
