Largo LaGrande returned to the fortress with the beard that remained from the spectral form of LeChuck, which Guybrush foolishly gave him, and a Voodoo Priest resurrected the dead pirate as a zombie. From there Largo had his spies and agents stalk Guybrush and prevent him from collecting the Map to Big Whoop (although he failed).
In order to lure Guybrush there, they kidnapped Wally B. Feed with the Map and put n the dungeons. Guybrush hid in a crate bound to the Fortress, transported tehre by Universal Pirate Shipping. Guybrush attempted to rescue Wally and resume his quest for the Big Whoop.
It was destroyed when Guybrush unwittingly lit a match in a chamber full of dynamite.
The fortress is an incredibly disturbing and spooky structure, each room and corridor reflecting LeChuck's love for violence and sadistic torture. In nearly every corner of the diseased building are skeletal parts, illustrating the fortress's violent background as hundreds, possibly thousands, were tortured in inhuman ways by the demonic voodoo lord and pirate himself and his followers. Many of the skeletons have since been used as decoration such as statues, while others were simply left rotting on the floor or used to hold candles. The fortress contains numerous torture chambers, a dungeon, countless corridors, and an office for LeChuck himself where he rules over the structure from a voodoo throne.
- While the original release of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge depicts LeChuck's Fortress being completely destroyed by the explosion that Guybrush unwittingly causes, the Special Edition release of the game depicts the fortress as being badly damaged by the explosion, but still left standing.
