The Marquis De Singe was the second primary villain in Tales of Monkey Island. He was an aristocratic doctor/scientist with wild ambitions who conducted experiments on living creatures, including humans.
History[]
Marquis De Singe was a court physician for King Louis XII until he was banished to Flotsam Island for experimenting on the Queen's poodles. He was the first living person on Flotsam since the merfolk or Vacalians abandoned it many years before. Eventually he discovered a wind controlling device that brought in many pirates and trapped them on the island. It was then that his business and experiments thrived, operating and often experimenting on pirates. He liked to amputate the limbs of pirates in order to further his studies, often without permission from the patient. He even cut off both legs of one pirate, Hemlock McGee, when he was trying to discover the source of the weird winds.
Personality[]
He is arrogant and self centered, always pointing his nose up at everyone which possibly stems from his aristocratic background. The Marquis is a man of science who scoffs at the practice of Voodoo or any other magic types. Showing no empathy towards the patients he mutilates or towards Guybrush Threepwood and Elaine Marley when he tries to use them to spread the Pox of LeChuck over the entire Caribbean. Inventive and intelligent, having created a grog anesthetic and an X-Ray machine, he is a scientist who is ahead of his time.
