Walt the Dog was a dog owned by Governor L. Phatt, who occasionally worked with Phatt's guard.
He served as a watch dog in the Phatt Island jail and held the prison key.
Guybrush Threepwood encountered him when the intrepid hero had a bounty for arrest and was temporarily sent to jail. He lured him with Mr. Willy Gorilla's bone

- Walt is named after Steve Purcell's dog who in turn may have been named after Walt Disney.
- Walt appears in homage to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride on which the series was originally based. Walt is based on the Prison Dog of the ride, who is guarding a pirate jail cell with a key in its mouth, and the prisoners try to lure him with a bone. The scene appears much later in the first film.
